Now that New Year’s resolutions and Superbowl LIX are behind us, it is time to concentrate on professional business for the upcoming months.
Some highlights for this month are listed below.

Seeking one Dept. Chair to serve on the AUPN Program Committee
AUPN is looking for one Department Chair to join the Program Committee. This committee plays a key role in shaping educational programming throughout the year, with a focus on identifying topics and speakers for the Spring and Fall sessions designed for Chairs. Committee members serve a four-year term (2025–2029) and meet twice per year (once in the summer and once in the fall) to plan programming for the following year.
If interested, please send your CV and a brief statement on why you would like to serve to neuro@aupn.org by March 2nd.

New Chair of Neurology
Dr. Sean Pittock has been appointed the Glenn W. and Katherine K. Hasse Chair of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Pittock is an internationally renowned expert on autoimmune neurological disorders. He also serves as the Marilyn A. Park and Moon S. Park, MD Director of Mayo Clinic’s Center for Multiple Sclerosis and Autoimmune Neurology and the principal investigator of Mayo’s Neuroimmunology Research Laboratory. Much of his research has been groundbreaking and is reported in over 400 peer-reviewed publications. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Pittock!

Elevating Women in Neurology: Perspectives from Empowering Leaders is now online
This program was produced in partnership with NeurologyLIve and launched on Feb 3rd, National Women’s Physician Day.
In this compelling panel discussion, neurologists Carlayne E. Jackson, MD (UT Health San Antonio), Marie Eugene, DO (University of Connecticut), and Vanessa Hinson, MD, PhD (Medical University of South Carolina) explore the evolving role of women in neurology. They share insights into how we can empower women leaders. They discuss women’s unique contributions to neurology departments and the challenges they have faced as women in the medical workforce. The conversation also highlights groundbreaking women-related research, making this series a must-watch for those passionate about advancing diversity and inclusion in medicine. Leading Edge Podcast
Our new Leading Edge Podcast is entitled “Neuroscience Service Lines: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”. The moderator is Clifton L. Gooch, MD of the University of South Florida, and the speaker is Chris Rubio of UT Southwestern Medical Center.
In this episode of AUPN's Leading Edge we will explore the pros and cons of the Service Line paradigm and its implications for academic medicine. Our guest for this conversation is another leading academic health system executive, Chris Rubio. Mr. Rubio is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the University of Texas Southwestern Health System and is responsible for overseeing the multi-entity UT Southwestern clinical enterprise. Currently, he also serves as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the UT Southwestern University Hospital.

Leadership Minute
Our Leadership Minute for this month is entitled “How to prompt AI to get the answer you need”. The moderator is Shreyas Gangadhara, MD of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and the speaker is Surekha Reddy, Founder and Chief Product & Technology Officer Stealth-mode AI Startup AI is here to stay. Mr. Reddy provides useful advice on mastering the art of AI prompting and unlocking the potential of this revolutionary technology to accelerate your work.
