New Chair of Neurology
Xuemei Huang, MD, PhD, an internationally known Parkinson’s Disease expert, has been appointed the Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Dr. Huang was previously on the faculty at the Penn State College of Medicine where she served as Associate Dean for physician scientist development and Chief of the Division of Movement Disorders. She has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 2003. Please congratulate Dr. Huang on her new appointment!

Leadership Minute
This month’s Leadership Minute is entitled, “What is Brain Health & Why You Should Care About It!”. The Moderator is Dr. Shreyas Gangadhara from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the Speaker is Dr. Mitchell Elkind, the Chief Medical Officer at the American Heart Association. Dr. Elkind will discuss “Brain Health”. He explains that nearly 50% of brain disease is preventable and that it can be improved through healthy diet, exercise and control of blood pressure, among other measures. The American Heart Association now provides research opportunities to study brain health and its relationship to cardiovascular diseases.

2025 NINDS Clinical Trials Methodology Course: Call for Applications! Due January 21, 2025.
The NINDS Clinical Trials Methodology Course (CTMC) is pleased to announce the 2025 call for applications. The goal of this course is to train early career investigators to develop scientifically rigorous, feasible, and ethically designed clinical trials. The application deadline is January 21, 2025, at 11:59pm PST.
